John Berger’s work as a broadcaster, art critic, novelist, essayist, painter and poet helped define how we can choose to see the world.

He was a radical humanist, wonderfully subversive and one of the most engaging story tellers you’ll ever come across. Brilliant and inspirational, his programmes such as ’About Time’ and ‘Pig World’ are also on YouTube along with his most famous work ‘Ways of Seeing’. His novel G. won the 1972 Booker Prize. His essay on art Ways of Seeing, written as an accompaniment to his BBC series of the same name, is often used as a university text (it was the first book suggested on my degree course too ). He lived in France for over fifty years, often manually working the land with local villagers. He passed away in 2017 aged 90 and has left us with a good body of work to explore.
