Nearly five years after the 6-day War, peace in the
Middle East is as far away as ever. In this 1972
interview, Israel's Premier, Mrs. Golda Meir, makes it
clear that although everything, in principle, is negotiable,
there are certain pieces of territory which Israel
is determined to hold on to: Jerusalem, the Golan
Heights and Sharm el Sheikh in Sinai. The justification,
explains Mrs. Meir, is to be found either in past history
or in the practical necessity for Israel to have what she
terms secure borders.
