Biopiracy is a modern form of commercial colonialism and it’s robbing indigenous communities of countries like India, South Africa of their rightful heritage. This video showcases how Corporations and individuals are exploiting traditional knowledge, such as Ayurveda, Yoga, spices and other herbal medicine, by securing patents and trademarks, leaving local communities without credit or benefits.

We have highlighted some infamous cases like the Turmeric Case and the patenting of Neem oil, as well as the exploitation of Rooibos tea from South Africa. Further we show how Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) is fighting biopiracy.

Under the leadership Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, India created the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL), a groundbreaking initiative to safeguard centuries of knowledge in Ayurveda and traditional practices. With TKDL, India has successfully challenged patent claims by global giants, reclaiming ownership of its intellectual heritage.
