Their debut album, Hunted (1984), is a cult favorite that captures the sound of a band trying to outrun the end of the metal boom.

The Blade Runner Story
The band formed in 1983, originally under the name White Tiger. After realizing the name was already taken, they pivoted to Blade Runner—a name that was everywhere thanks to the Ridley Scott film released just a year prior.

They signed with Ebony Records, a label famous for its "record them fast, release them faster" approach. This gave Hunted a very specific sound: raw, high-energy, and slightly unpolished, which fans of "real" underground metal absolutely love.

The Sound: Saxon meets Def Leppard
If Accept was about discipline and Cobra was about grit, Blade Runner was about hooks and speed.

Steve McKay’s Vocals: Unlike the gravelly Udo Dirkschneider, McKay had a soaring, classic rock range that gave the band a more "accessible" edge.

The Production: Because it was an Ebony Records release, the album is drenched in a massive amount of reverb. It makes the drums sound like they were recorded in an airplane hangar, giving it a "larger than life" 80s feel.

6. I've Got To Rock – A pure "party metal" anthem.
7. Dogs Of War – Not to be confused with the Saxon song; this is a darker, mid-tempo track.

Why It Matters
Blade Runner never became "the next Iron Maiden," mostly because they arrived a few years too late to the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) party. By 1984, the world was moving toward either Thrash Metal (Metallica) or Glam Metal (Mötley Crüe). Blade Runner sat right in the middle—too heavy for the radio, but too melodic for the thrashers.

Fun Fact: If you look for them online, don't be surprised if you find a pro-wrestling link. A young Sting and The Ultimate Warrior actually wrestled as a tag team called "The Blade Runners" around the same time this album was out!
