Day 5: Port at St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands & Animation Night

Hi friends! Welcome to Day 5 of our Disney Cruise aboard the Disney Fantasy! YAAAAYYY! Today we are swimming with dolphins in St. Thomas! Childhood dreams are coming true! So we started the day with a nice sit-down breakfast at Royal Court. Then, Liz and I headed to D Lounge to meet for our port adventure! We disembarked into the sunshine on St. Thomas and boarded an open air bus to Coral World. We were able to see a lot of the island and our cruise ship from afar. We had some time to walk around Coral World and explore before our Dolphin Splash began. And then, finally, it was time to swim and hang out with some dolphins! We geared up with some water shoes and lifejackets and attended a brief safety meeting.

Unfortunately, we could not film or take our own pictures with the dolphins for their safety. However, this let us completely enjoy our time with the dolphins worry free. Liz and I were in a group with five other people, one trainer, and one dolphin. We started off on a platform about knee deep in water and gave lots of belly rubs and fish to our dolphin, Noahlani. We learned that she is nine years old, blind in both eyes, and arrived to Coral World in 2019. She was super friendly, talkative, and so so sweet. Then we swam out into deeper water and hung out with Noahlani some more. Even though the ocean was a little chilly, Noahlani and her trainer made it such a fun and memorable experience.

I want to point out that all the dolphins and ocean creatures at Coral World were treated with the highest of care. The animal's safety and well being was the top priority. The trainers told us that the dolphins participate at their own free will. If they do not want to be around guests, they are free to swim and hang out away from people. But since there are treats involved, the dolphins opt to swim with the guests most of the time. If you ever have a chance to swim or give some love to a dolphin, do it! I highly highly recommend this port adventure!

After swimming with Noahlani, we explored some more of Coral World and headed back to the ship. We ate lunch at Cabanas, took a million panoramic shots of the island, played some Pokémon Go (We had wifi on the island!), and hung out on the top decks until we pulled away from port. Dad and I tried to play Goofy Golf, but the wind made it impossible. So instead, we rode the AquaDuck a couple times and got ready for dinner. We ate at Animator's Palate, which was Animation Night! We drew our own character and Sorcerer Mickey animated everyone's drawings to some iconic Disney music and scenes. It was a new experience for all four of us and it was definitely a highlight of our cruise. To end the night and start Star Wars Day at Sea, Darth Vader and some Stormtroopers appeared in the Atrium and were looking for a rebel spy. Finally, we returned to our stateroom and got ready for bed!
