Three people have been killed after a 32-year-old gunman opened fire at a house and a hospital in Rotterdam.

Dutch police said they were still investigating the motive for the twin attacks by the man dressed in black combat clothes and a bulletproof vest, who also set fire to the hospital and a house. However, they added that the shootings appeared to have been targeted.

The gunman first burst into a house in the Dutch port city and opened fire, killing a 39-year-old woman and seriously injuring her 14-year-old daughter, Fred Westerbeke, the police chief, told reporters. The teenage girl died later in the evening.

He then moved to a classroom at the Erasmus University Medical Centre, shooting dead a 43-year-old teacher before starting another fire in the facility, causing panic.
