Eukaryotic cells have membrane-bound organelles. The nucleus stores DNA. The endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi body are involved in protein maturation and transport. Mitochondria generate usable energy for the cell. Chloroplasts carry out photosynthesis. Vacuoles are storage compartments that sequester waste and help maintain water balance. Lysosomes contain enzymes that help break down waste.
