At the time of her interview for Kefi, The Story of the Greek Orthodox Folk Dance Festival (FDF), Elaine was living in Pleasanton, California. (She participated in FDF a member of the Castro Valley Resurrection Parish.) Elaine describes the disappointment of elimination rounds of dancing at the earliest FDF events, the format changes to speed up the competition, and how FDF started to host groups from other states. Elaine describes the FDF trips to Greece and how they broadened her cultural perspective. About being Greek, she says “It's more than just food. It's more than just dancing. It is something that's ingrained in you and it's kind of how you live your life, because the religion and the dance and the culture are all so meshed together, that it's hard to separate one from the other. You know, it's like it's who you are.”
