Hey, Dodgers Nation! Welcome back to the channel, where we keep you updated on everything that truly matters about our beloved Los Angeles Dodgers. Today, I’ve got a story that, while not entirely surprising, has a twist that might catch some of you off guard, especially if you’ve been keeping an eye on our division rivals. But before we dive into the details, you know the drill: hit that like button, subscribe to the channel, and turn on notifications so you don’t miss any updates on the Dodgers!
In recent weeks, the Dodgers made a move that caught some attention, but it wasn’t exactly a shock to most fans. On August 5th, the team designated Cavan Biggio for assignment, a move that many felt was overdue. The truth is, Biggio had to stick around a bit longer than planned, especially with Freddie Freeman’s absence while he took care of his son at the end of July and early August, which led Biggio to cover first base temporarily.
In his 30 games with the Dodgers, Biggio batted .192 with a .635 OPS, with most of those games coming during a particularly tough time for the team, when we were without Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Max Muncy. The highlight of his stint might have been hitting a home run against the Astros, in front of his father, an Astros Hall of Famer, but beyond that, it was easy to see why the Blue Jays let him go back in early June.
On August 8th, Biggio was officially released and returned to free agency limbo. Surprisingly, none of the struggling teams decided to take a chance on a veteran utility player, but the story doesn’t end there. A division rival of the Dodgers decided to give Biggio a second chance. That’s right, folks, the San Francisco Giants signed him to a minor league deal last Friday.
Now, here’s the twist: the Giants, who are playing .500 baseball this year and are 12.5 games behind the Dodgers, really had nothing to lose by taking a chance on Biggio. If he can hit well in the minors, there’s a chance he could be called up soon, especially to cover third base with Wilmer Flores recently moving to the 60-day IL.
While it’s nice to see Biggio getting another shot elsewhere, it’s hard to ignore how much better our Dodgers lineup looks without him, especially with the return of key players and the addition of Tommy Edman. Even if Biggio gets called up again this year, he won’t have the chance for a “revenge game” against the Dodgers, as we won’t face the Giants again this season.
So, Dodgers fans, what do you think of this move? Does Biggio still have something to prove with the Giants, or was it the right call for the Dodgers to move on? Leave your thoughts in the comments, share this video with other Dodgers fans, and of course, don’t forget to subscribe to the channel to stay updated on all the latest news about our team!
