Julie Bindel is a prominent English radical feminist writer, known for her significant contributions to feminist discourse and activism. Born on July 20, 1962, she co-founded the law reform group Justice for Women, which focuses on assisting women who have been prosecuted for defending themselves against violent male partners.

Bindel's work extensively explores issues like male violence against women and children, with particular attention to prostitution, stalking, religious fundamentalism, and human trafficking. Her role as a former visiting researcher at the University of Lincoln and as the former assistant director of the Research Centre on Violence, Abuse and Gender Relations at Leeds Metropolitan University highlights her academic involvement in these areas.

In 2004, Bindel wrote a column titled "Gender Benders, beware" in The Guardian, which was met with considerable backlash. This column expressed frustration over the case of #KimberlyNixon, a transgender woman who was removed from her training as a rape crisis counselor because she was trans.

Bindel holds that gender is a product of socialization and that traditional gender roles contribute to women's oppression. Bindel has advocated for an end to gender entirely, expressing concern that gender-reassignment surgery reinforces gender stereotypes and that the diagnosis of gender identity disorder is based on outdated notions of appropriate behavior for males and females.
