📖 Overview
Bergenline Avenue Station serves as an intermodal facility, seamlessly connecting different modes of transportation. It’s strategically located on 49th Street between Bergenline Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard in Union City, NJ, near the borders of West New York and North Bergen. This station stands out as the only completely underground stop on the Hudson–Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) network. It opened for service on February 25, 2006, and is nestled 160 feet below the Hudson Palisades within the former Weehawken Terminal tunnel of the West Shore Railroad. The station features four porcelain enamel murals titled “Between Manhattan and Meadowlands,” created by artist Maria Mijares. These murals add a touch of creativity to the underground space. It is the main shopping district in North Hudson. As you venture south, it narrows from a two-way thoroughfare to a narrower one-way avenue, with New York Avenue serving as the northbound route. Hudson County Community College maintains a location next to the station complex on Kennedy Boulevard, making it convenient for students.
