The 1975 Livermore Trans-AMA race was fast, dry and dusty. Marty Smith was very fast all day on his works Honda. This was the race that heralded the rise of full-face helmets. In the second moto, Roger DeCoster's works bike broke in half at the triple clamp landing from the 70mph straightaway jump. The crash sent him face first onto the hard-packed track. Tough as nails, DeCoster cleaned himself up, and was taken to a hospital for surgery on his face.
