I Don't Know and Tune X (later renamed Tones) are two of only a few songs recorded during the SMiLE Sessions that weren't composed by Brian. Instead, they were composed and recorded by Dennis and Carl respectively, possibly with arrangement help from Brian. They likely weren't meant to be on the album, instead acting as a way to test their composing and producing skills.
