Paul Spooner has created 24 automata to raise funds for The Trussell Trust, a UK charity supporting Food Banks. 100% of the proceeds of the sales will go to The Trussell Trust.

Cat / food:

As an almost perfect example of a non-essential worker, I’ve struggled to think of a way to help out in the current emergency. It’s not comfortable self-isolating in the relative luxury of a house in the country with enough room to move around, with a shed to work in and a garden from which to watch the grass growing and wildlife living the wild life; what about the people who were already living difficult lives even before they were ordered to stay in places much worse than this? People who needed to get food from food banks and had nowhere to take their children to play?

Then I thought, if only I could turn cats into food- wooden cats, not real ones- we all know where xenophagy can get you. So I’ve made 24 cats.

About cats:

You can never take anything a cat says at face value. If, for a moment, a cat seems to be taking your interests into account, let that moment pass quickly and dismiss it from your mind.

About the machines:

Cats are carved from lime wood on bases of black walnut. Each one is a little different because they were made without templates and painted without trying too hard to achieve uniformity. Signed, dated and numbered. Limited Edition of 24

Height: 12.5 cm
