Wounded Knee

Описание к видео Wounded Knee

On the morning of December 29, 1890, the U.S. 7th Cavalry (Custer’s old regiment) went into the Lakota Sioux camp near Wounded Knee creek in South Dakota to surround and disarm them. The Lakota were in the process of surrendering when a shot rang out. The Cavalry then opened fire with heavy guns. When the smoke cleared, more than 250 Lakota lay dead and 51 were wounded (4 men and 47 women and children. Twenty-five soldiers were also killed and thirty-nine were wounded. This massacre, essentially marked the end of Native armed resistance. I wrote this song after reading Dee Brown’s book Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee and visiting the site of this tragedy.
