"The Future of Retail Energy" - Presented by Shannon McGriff, Executive Director of the Energy Professionals Association (TEPA) and principal of McGriff Energy Consulting, during the New York Energy Week 2023.
Shannon McGriff, a well-respected leader in the energy industry, provides valuable insights into the transformation of the retail energy sector. In this presentation, she delves into three main areas: Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Energy as a Service (EaaS). Each of these plays a significant role in the evolving energy landscape.
DERs enable consumers to produce their own power locally, which increases grid resilience and reliability, reduces transmission and distribution losses, and helps integrate renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Shannon examines how DERs shift the dynamics of traditional energy markets and discusses their impact from a regulatory perspective.
AI's role in the energy industry cannot be understated. Shannon explores how AI can enhance customer experiences through personalization, manage energy consumption in real-time, and improve demand forecasting accuracy. She also considers AI's potential to increase cybersecurity awareness and protect sensitive customer data.
The innovative EaaS model offers tailored energy solutions to customers on a subscription basis. In this presentation, Shannon highlights how this approach provides cost-effective solutions, mitigates risks for the end users, and allows providers to guarantee specific savings.
