10 secrets for vintage cakes that you need to know before you make your own!

This design style may seem challenging but with these 10 secrets for vintage cakes, I'm sure you will be successful.

For this style, the more details, the better! Don't be afraid to use different types of piping or colours because the eye-catching details are the beauty of this style.

To start, I suggest you draw what you plan to do. This makes it much easier to visualize the design and serves as a guide as you transfer your ideas onto the cake. Use toothpicks, creased paper, and cookie cutters to make markings on the cake as guidelines.

A very smooth, chilled icing is essential to begin with. For layered details I suggest chilling the cake in the fridge for 15-30 minutes so that the details remain firm and don't get damaged by further piping.

The key to this design is repetition, which brings everything together. Focus on piping each layer slowly and following the guidelines carefully and then gradually add more details. For extra glamour, add decorations like fruit or flowers.

Store the cake in the fridge until a few hours before serving. This keeps the decorations perfect but gives them time to warm up to room temperature before eating!
