Saddle Up: Mountain Biking at Saddleback Mtn., Rangeley, ME

Saddleback Mountain in Rangeley Maine is best known as a venue for downhill skiing & snowboarding, but in the spring of 2022 it opened a series of mountain bike trails, complete with chair lift service & bike rentals, to encourage year-round visitation. ENE got a downhill tour with Saddleback’s Mountain Operations Manager Jared Emerson, who helped design and build the rugged trail system.

Emerson is a longtime mountain biker himself, and largely self-taught. He and other local riders helped design the trail system based on the existing terrain, adding features such as banked turns(berms), bridges and jumps. Riders can either pedal to the top of the trails or get a lift on the mountain's existing chair lift system.

Bike rentals for adults & kids are also available at Saddleback's main lodge, which also features a restaurant & pub serving local craft beers.
