Hopefully this six minute short film captures the experience, sights and sounds of being and working at the largest arts festival in the world. Shot on my iPhone as it was all I had on me at all times!

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe started in 1947 when 8 theatre groups came to the first Edinburgh International Festival (EIF). As the years went on, more and more perfomers hit Edinburgh to perform on the outskirts of the EIF and by 1958 the Festival Fringe Society was formed to provide information, a central box office and a published programme of all the Fringe shows. Central to the society's constitution, both then and now, was the policy that there should be no artistic vetting from the society.

The Fringe caters for the biggest names to performers in the street and covers all sorts from theatre and comedy to children's shows, dance, physical theatre, musicals, operas, music, exhibitions, and events. The 2011 Fringe sold 1,877,119 tickets for 41,689 performances of 2,542 shows, in 258 venues, over 25 days, for an average of more than 75,000 admissions and 1,360 performances per day. There were an estimated 21,192 performers, from 60 countries participating.
