Umut-Elazığ

Umut-Elazığ is a fresh, sensitive and sustainable project designed as a response to the earthquake happened on January 24th 2020 in Elazığ.
Emre Arolat led an Advanced Design Studio formed by a team of students and newly graduated architects with Assoc. Prof. Ece Ceylan Baba at Yeditepe University.

It was an extremely tough and challenging yet quite unique and fruitful process and we presented the concept to the Mayor and the Governor of Elazığ on 10th of February 2021.

The dialectic between terms such as qualified density and airiness, accessibility and intimacy, cross-programming and legibility, systemness and diversity shaped the intellectual framework of the project together with the aim of providing a highly sensitive environment.

Using the generosity of public realm as the main generator of the concept, the studio proposed meticulously designed solutions for vertical farming, wetlands, recreational, educational, commercial and sport facilities together with several types of residential units.

We hope that this project will form an attractive example by shifting the musty routines and become an alluring social destination.
