China-built new mega-port in Peru to cut Brazil-Asia shipping time & benefit South American Pacific

Cosco Shipping Corporate Affairs Manager, Mario De Las Casas said,“We are 78 kilometers far from Lima, in Chancay, in a city of 60,000 people where the latest technology and efficiency port is in construction.”

Brazilian companies are interested in a new mega-port being built in Peru. The $1.3 billion project, being constructed by Chinese company Cosco Shipping, will provide a faster route
to the Asian market.

Currently, Brazilian companies have to travel along the Atlantic coast to reach Asia, which takes longer. The new port in Peru will allow them to reach Asia in just 30 days, which is 15 days faster than the current routes

“With this port, the opportunity to access an immense market, which is the Asian one, is open. This is the big boom, I think, for the Peruvian economy, in the first place, but also for the Brazilian market. Brazil nowadays spends an average of over 45 days to arrive in Asia. And Brazil is the world soy larder.”

The Chinese company plans to finish building the port by 2024 and hopes to make it a major hub in the South American Pacific.
