“Speaker McCarthy is going to try to put together his own temporary bill to keep the government funding, and he says he'll bring it up for a vote on Friday, which would be just one day away from a federal government shutdown deadline. It's not at all clear that Speaker McCarthy has the votes from his own Republicans to pass this bill. The bill includes strict budget cuts on many federal agencies, and Speaker McCarthy also wants to add in a border security package that some of his own Republicans and certainly Democrats and President Biden said is too strict, too severe and not something they would support.”

Of course, the House Republicans have their own ideas in mind and the House Republicans want nothing to do with this bill that's being processed over in the Senate, led by Speaker Kevin McCarthy,” said Associated Press reporter Lisa Mascaro.

McCarthy is reviving plans for the House Republicans' own stopgap funding measure that would slash federal spending by 8% for many agencies and attach a hardline border security measure that conservatives are demanding. He's planning a Friday vote.
