I had a maintenance request come through for a brand new washing machine that wasn't draining. This house had one of those "whole home warranty" things, and apparently the old washer was having issues and they replaced it with a brand new one. The next day the tenants called in to say it wasn't draining (I think the old one had the same problem), so instead of calling the warranty company and waiting a few weeks for them to check it out, they asked me to take a look.
On arrival, I noticed right away the wash tub it drains into was full and the drain hose was submerged. This likely caused some back pressure tripping a sensor in the washer to stop draining, essentially preventing the washer from flooding a house. I pulled the hose out and resumed the cycle and it continued to drain.
Next up, clearing the drain to make it so the wash tub doesn't back up. Once that was done, I ran a test cycle and sure enough, good to go!
