SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING BELOW (talking about the end situation)

During this event, we had a clear rule of a 5 person faction limit, but factions were allowed to ally with each other because if not, people not KOSing each other when they see each other would kind of break that rule and become a huge mess. The importance of factions in zomboid is that you cannot hit/damage other faction members without turning it on in the settings.

So with those rules set, the faction DM and NM were formed and played as a sort of '10 person group' but split into two factions for all of the event. Is it breaking the rules? No that follows the rules because they can ally.

However, at the end the big group lost some members and decided to merge into one, and accidentially added a 6th member. It was stated around 4 times before the event to everyone in the discord stage that if you go over 5 members your faction will be disbanded. If you go over 5 members a second time you will be kicked. This is so someone can invite someone on accident and not get eliminated from the event. But if they do it again they are kicked.

So, after they added a 6th member I disbanded their faction, and then they didn't have a faction for the rest of the event, until one of their members won at the end. Was this fair? I mean the punishments were laid out for all of the participants at the start so I think it was.

This is the first time we're running an event like this and yes the rules can be improved upon or written down more clearly but everything was stated and people (other event participants) seem to be mad about what the punishments were. I mean there's nothing we can do about it now but for future events we're definitely gonna think about this scenario and have clear rules/punishments set. Anyways I hope this is a fun event to watch or it was fun to play in, that's the goal at the end of the day.
