MMN represented M+Z Mercedes Benz Namibia and Jac Motors Namibia to join a few academics, astronomers, lecturers in the field of science this Friday for a familiarisation tour to the Gamsberg Plato where plans are in an advanced stage to construct the Africa Millimetre Telescope.
Among the team driving up the mountain were diplomats from EU countries.
The trip up the narrow (one lane) road was not only scenic, but treacherous and needed any driver's full attention as there was no place for any error.
Off-road driving skills combined with knowledge of your own car's capabilities is a must.
It is third highest mountains in Namibia with an elevation of 2347m. The road from the foot to the plato takes you on an adventure that takes about thirty minutes to the top of the mountain.
The plato is about 2600m in length and approximately
800 wide and tower about 450 m above the surrounding mountains. An impressive sight indeed.

The JAC T9 was my vehicle of choice, and the car proved it is more than capable, taking on serious slopes, narrow roads, sometimes i got really nervous, but the T9 with it's 2.0L turbo diesel and 8 speed ZF made it a breeze.
Going up 4H was more than capable with hardly any stress on the engine or the transmission.
Our way I came down in M1 4L - for the engine to brake the car. And again no strain on the car at all. (the only strain was on my nerves due to the fact there was no time or place for error. )
