How to show your appreciation : Part II

In today’s video I will talk about how one’s preferred language can backfire when used with an audience with a different appreciation language. And how to avoid making this mistake and offending someone inadvertently. And also for you not to waste your time, energy and money trying to show appreciation that are not going to work. 

I share a case where the Manager’s Words of Affirmation missed its mark when it was applied to an audience with a preference for Acts of Service. For Acts of service, action speaks louder than words. Their motto is Don’t tell me you care, show me. When the Manager tried to encourage them with words of affirmation, they fell on deaf ears. They don’t understand why she doesn’t offer help when they are struggling with their work. This led to the Manager adopting the Act of Service language to connect with the team.

There is no one size fits all appreciation so to discover how we can make the time and effort to make people feel valued, It is important to know what people’s appreciation languages are so we can respond in a manner which reflects their preferences.
