The Cheapest Way I Created My LLC
When I decided to start my own business, I was excited—but also on a tight budget. I wanted to protect myself legally and operate professionally, but I didn’t have hundreds of dollars to throw at a lawyer or a third-party service. So I made it my mission to form my LLC as cheaply as possible—doing everything myself, step by step.
To start, I researched the basic requirements in my state. Every state has its own rules and fees, so I went straight to my Secretary of State’s website. Next, I needed a registered agent—someone who receives legal documents on behalf of the LLC. I could have paid for a service, but to save money, I made myself the registered agent. As long as you have a physical address in your state and are available during business hours, you can do that. It’s free and totally legal.

All in all, I created my LLC for just the state filing fee—nothing more. I avoided third-party services, unnecessary add-ons, and upsells. I kept everything organized in a digital folder so I wouldn’t need to pay anyone for help down the line.
