I had a lovely evening with a childhood friend, Linda, catching up on so much. Well fed, hot jacuzzi with jets that helped the back and maybe a little too much wine. I’ve known Linda and her bother David, one of my best friends, since I was 5 and there are silent home movies with them at birthday parties and beach days along with my sister Heather. So goog to have seen each of them on this trip.
Coming down the hills on these narrow streets and tight curves is a lot easier than coming up them as I head to the Golden Gate Bridge. In 2008 I headed up the centre of California trying to make time and I kicked myself for not detouring to ride over the bridge. I really thought that I would never make it back this way on a bike. This time I made sure that it was included in my plans as I really am not sure if I will ever make it back this way. We just don’t know. The bridge was semi-hid by fog and I was worried that I would not see much but in the end, the fog just added to the mystique of the moment.
Of course, I missed my turnoff for Hwy 1 and had to go through all the tunnels leading to the bridge twice to get back on track. Nothing wrong with tunnels.
It was a good ride down along the coast to Santa Cruz where I being not adventurous today, ate an early supper at a McDs. Saw a couple of motorcyclists lane splitting which is legal of course in California but I think I am just too wide with the trailer to dare do it.
I ended up in Castroville at the Coastal Valley Inn. The back is being more of an issue.
