Here’s Chuck’s chart-topping double-entendre concert specialty, recorded live during the Lanchester Arts Festival at the Locarno ballroom in Coventry, England, on February 3, 1972. The full 11½ minute version includes a lengthy audience set-up and some additional verses that were not heard on the best-selling 45 (listen here:    • My Ding-A-Ling (Live At The Lancaster Arts...   ).

Reminiscent of the type of ‘party record’ that used to be sold under-the-counter at the local record store (think Ruth Wallis), this song was first recorded as “My Ding-A-Ling” in 1952 by the Dave Bartholomew band (    • 1st RECORDING OF: My Ding-A-Ling - Dave Ba...   ) and later by several artists with title and lyric variations as “Toy Bell,” “Little Girl Sing Ting-A-Ling,” and in 1968 by Chuck Berry as “My Tambourine” (    • Chuck Berry - My Tambourine   ).
