Reel du P'tit Cap - Devon's Tune of the Day 177

So yesterday I picked out a tune, "The Little Burnt Potato", from the Fiddler's Fakebook and I thought it was pretty good. But then today I realized that there's a New Brunswick Acadian tune that we've been playing forever called "Reel du P'tit Cap" that's a really neat variation of The Little Burnt Potato. Since it was a popular Don Messer tune, it's not surprising that Acadian players in New Brunswick adapted this tune. We learned it from the playing of accordionist Georges LeBlanc from Dieppe, which is just outside Moncton. My dad says it used to be called "Légere's Corner", so likely we have some relatives there lol! Georges was born in Memramcook, where my dad's family is from. The beginning of both parts is pretty similar to the original tune, but he has some real neat variations in the rest of the tune that I just love. It's a bit tricky since you need to shift into position on the fiddle, which I avoid whenever possible, but this is actually a pretty fun shift!

We recorded this tune on our La Famille Léger album years back! Check it out here:
