Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on the early modern history and history of the United States of America, continues with a new series on the War of 1812. In the first video of the series we are discussing why the War of 1812 erupted: borders, trade warfare, impressment, Tecumseh, and politics that pushed America into conflict (   • The Real Causes of the War of 1812  ). This episode explores the disastrous opening year of the War of 1812. While American leaders like Thomas Jefferson predicted the conquest of Canada would be a "mere matter of marching," the reality was far grimmer. Follow the strategic blunders of General William Hull at Detroit and the heroic but tragic stand of Sir Isaac Brock at Queenston Heights. While the American land campaign crumbled due to poor logistics and divided politics, the US Navy stunned the world on the Atlantic. We analyze how heavy frigates like the USS Constitution challenged British naval supremacy and shifted the war’s psychological tide.
