The new list of 30 cities for the development under the Smart City Mission of the Central Government includes Thiruvanampuram of Kerala, New Raipur in Chhattisgarh and Rajkot of Gujarat. With this new announcement, the number of cities selected under the Smart City scheme of the Center has increased to 90. Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that the list for smart cities was vacant for 40 cities, but 30 cities were selected to ensure the practicality and work-plan. Under the Smart City Plans, an investment of Rs 57,393 crores is proposed.

The list of third phase released under the Smart City scheme includes Amravati of Andhra Pradesh, Patna of Bihar, Karimnagar of Telangana and Muzaffarpur of Bihar.
