On the First Sunday of Lent, the Gospel tells us that Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil (Matthew 4:1). Why would the Son of God enter into combat? And what does His battle teach us about our own spiritual warfare?

In this powerful Lenten sermon, we are reminded that the soul of every Christian is like a city under siege. Once created in peace, the human soul now finds itself in continual warfare — attacked by the world, the flesh, and the devil.

Christ did not avoid the battle.

He triumphed.
