This year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas saw several construction equipment manufacturers take the stage and show off their latest technology. One of them was Wirtgen America, who brought in a Vögele Super 1700 3-i asphalt paver to demonstrate its Smart Pave solution system to attendees.

Equipment World was on the ground at CES 2026 and spoke with Craig Lamarque, vice president of digital products at Wirtgen America, to breakdown the on-display system and how it can benefit contractors.

Among the advantages of this system that Lamarque breaks down include work safety improvements, time savings, material savings, and automation.

One of Wirtgen Group’s most recent technology releases was at last year’s World of Asphalt show in St. Louis, where it debuted its brand new Smart Compact Pro real-time density technology for its Hamm HD+ series of tandem rollers. That system adds a real-time density scan sensor beneath the center of the roller that determines the asphalt density by measuring the dielectric conductivity, which forms the basis for correlation with density or porosity.
