Short Story Title: Men Are Dying In Silence

The second short story, titled Men are dying in silence by Okechukwu Okugo, tells of domestic violence of a man suffering in the hands of his wife despite his earnest efforts to be a good father. People usually think domestic violence is only experienced by women, but because of the image culture placed on men, most men hide their victimhood. It is expected that a man should not cry out in public. A man must endure every pain and burden he faces in his family or in society; otherwise, if he cries out, he is less of a man. Chike, who knows that his wife is physically stronger than he is, and his wife is now taking advantage of his vulnerability, even found a way to pin it on Chike as the abusive one. Everyone in the neighborhood believed the woman, and all saw Chike as the abusive man, despite him being the one crying deep inside. This story is told to encourage you, the man, not suffer in silence. It is also acceptable for a man to cry. It is cool for the man to seek help. When you suffer abuse in silence, it can take a toll on your emotional state and can quash your productivity and your right to the enjoyment of life. Whether you are a man or a woman, never allow abuse damage your emotional state by keeping silent. Your work, welfare, and wholesomeness in life depend on it.
