For instance, hook 9 onto one side and hook 7 on the other side to illustrate that 9 is larger than 7. Moreover, you can let children try to put one number piece to balance the scale so that he/she will find out that 2 is the answer of 9 minus 7 and that it also means 7 plus 2 equals 9.
