China has reiterated its territorial claims over the Shaksgam Valley, describing its infrastructure projects in the region as “beyond reproach.” This comes shortly after India asserted its rights in the area.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that the Shaksgam Valley is Indian territory and that India has never recognized the 1963 China-Pakistan border agreement. Jaiswal also clarified that India does not recognize the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, as it passes through Indian territory under illegal occupation by Pakistan.

The Shaksgam Valley, covering 5,180 sq km, was illegally ceded to China by Pakistan in 1963 from areas Pakistan had itself occupied unlawfully. India has repeatedly communicated its position to both China and Pakistan.
