Interviewer: So what got you involved in dentistry? You talked to us last night about... tell us that story again about dentistry and what you really liked about it?

Dr. Scott Frank: When I was 13 years old, I was having orthodontics and I really was intrigued about the experience. I always had a desire to take things apart and put them back together and fix it, and to be able to do that with the
mechanics of orthodontics but still deal with people was very attractive to me.

At 13, I pretty much decided dentistry was for me, and from then on everything I did was just really just to focus on getting great grades and making sure I got to dental school.

Interviewer: All right. So what do you love about what you do every day?

Dr. Scott Frank: Every day that I go to work and pick up the drill and having fun. Oral surgery is still a lot of fun to me. And then you add to that exactly the responses we get from patients. Take them out of pain. Change their smile often change their life. It is a truly rewarding profession. It's such an honor and a pleasure to be able to give a patient their smile back, the confidence, the ability to enhance their relationship and just to be able to enjoy a good quality of life again.

Dental implant is such a great advancement. Patients shouldn't really be thinking about their teeth from day to day, worrying about whether their smile looks good, or whether they can eat the foods they want. So dental implants have really given patients the ability to just move on with life without thinking about their teeth.

Our team at the North Shore Smile Surgery is so awesome. They really help to make the whole patient experience exactly what we hope it to be. Really, it takes the whole team to provide the type of care that patients want. They're talented, they care about patients and they're just excited about having the results as I am when patients give us that dynamic smile at the end of the treatment. Well, I better get to work.

Interviewer: What is the one thing that still drives you? No pun intended because we are driving. What is the one thing that drives you to keep pushing forward and keep looking for new ways to help people out and make your practice better?

Dr. Scott Frank: Sometimes I'm a patient and sometimes a consumer, and I know what it's like to be treated poorly or treated in an outstanding way. We're always looking for ways to make sure our patients truly understand that we care for them, that we're here for them, and really want to create the best experience we can.

And having partial hearing loss is a continuing challenge. It's something I deal with every day and it takes a lot of steps to get through the day, to make sure that I'm minimizing the effect that it has, both on my patient, my team. And you take what challenges you have, and you make the best out of them and you overcome them. Surgery is still what I get up every day for, to really take care of patients and hopefully change their lives.

Interviewer: Is there plenty of emotions out of you when you hand to somebody that mirror and they get to see their smile for the first time? I'm sure... I mean, it never gets old seeing those reactions like Helga gave us yesterday.

Dr. Scott Frank: Right. When we finally get to the final result and that patient picks up the mirror, the emotion and the reward is just amazing. That's what we show up to work for every day. We really love what we're doing here at North Shore Smile Surgery for our patients. I really appreciate you guys coming. Our first patient's ready. So we're going to get our day started.
