Often we struggle for inspiration when learning to improvise on saxophone. And, it's easy to just learn MORE scales, or complicate things.

However, I think a better strategy is to keep things simple, and look for inspiration in our favourite blues sax players.

Today I've been checking out a great blues solo by David "Fathead" Newman on a Ray Charles track called "Get on the right track baby".

It's a killer tune and a brilliant solo.

Plus, inside the solo are a bunch of beautiful blues lines.

So, I've been taking those lines and using them for inspiration in my solos. Doing this consistently is a great way to bring the inspiration back to your playing.

And, you're still only using the blues scale!

Awesome.
