Short-Term Credentials and Racial Equity: Complicated Past, Promising Future

Описание к видео Short-Term Credentials and Racial Equity: Complicated Past, Promising Future

More than 37 million Americans work in industries that have been hit hard by COVID-19 and more than 40 million have applied for unemployment. Due to a history of discrimination, people of color are disproportionately employed in low-wage industries hit hardest. A recent report shows that 49% of U.S. workers with both high school diplomas and professional certifications are in good jobs. But we must acknowledge not all non-degree credentials lead to these outcomes. With Lumina Foundation’s support, National Skills Coalition and Education Strategy Group are partnering to help states and postsecondary systems prioritize quality non-degree credentials that will quickly help people find and keep better jobs. Importantly, they are also tracking outcomes to ensure racial equity. On this webinar, experts will examine the history of occupational segregation and credentialing. They will also share how a renewed focus on quality and equity can lead to real opportunity and point out pitfalls that could do more harm to Black, Latino and Native American learners if not addressed at this critical time.
