THE HISTORY

An abandoned tenement block, presumably 1950s give or take a decade.

A 1950s block of council flats in Upper Pitt Street, in the shadow of Liverpool Cathedral, was earmarked for demolition in 2008 to help make way for a £100m urban village.

Last year the ECHO revealed the development company had applied for planning permission to create a car park on land already cleared between Upper Pitt Street and Great George Street.

The Tribeca scheme fell victim to the recession and Urban Splash said a temporary car park will allow the company to raise money to start the scheme and hopefully begin work on 10 social houses in Duncan Street – where the families were offered new homes.
