Stainless steel investment casting is an advanced casting process of near-net-shape forming, also known as lost wax casting.

The process flow of stainless steel investment casting is rather complicated. Firstly, a wax pattern that is consistent with the shape of the final casting needs to be made, which can be accomplished by means of injecting wax materials and so on. Then, the wax pattern is repeatedly dipped in refractory materials to form a shell with sufficient strength. After that, the wax pattern is melted and drained out by heating or other methods, and then the mold cavity that can be used for pouring is obtained. Subsequently, the molten stainless steel liquid is poured into the mold cavity. After it cools and solidifies, the shell is broken and the surface of the casting is cleaned, and thus the stainless steel investment casting is obtained.

It has many advantages. It has a high dimensional accuracy, which can reach CT4 - CT6 level, and the surface roughness is relatively low, generally reaching Ra1.6 - Ra3.2μm. Therefore, the casting can achieve high dimensional accuracy and a good appearance. It can cast parts with very complex shapes. Components with fine internal structures or complex exteriors can be well cast. The utilization rate of materials is relatively high, reducing the waste of materials.

In terms of application fields, stainless steel investment casting is widely used in numerous industries such as aerospace, automobile manufacturing, medical devices, electronic equipment, jewelry and so on. For example, in the aerospace field, it is used to manufacture some engine components with high precision requirements; in the medical device field, it is used to manufacture parts with extremely high requirements for surface quality and precision, such as artificial joints.
