The Bangladesh quota movement refers to the series of protests and demonstrations that took place primarily in 2018 and in 2024, led by students and job seekers. The movement was aimed at reforming the quota system in government jobs, which allocated 56% of positions to various groups, including freedom fighters’ descendants, women, and ethnic minorities. Protesters argued that the system was unfair and demanded a reduction of quotas to 10%, with the rest based on merit. The movement gained significant support and led to the government announcing a review and subsequent reforms in the quota system. In this video I have explained how this protest started.
