After upgrading my setup to a Ryzen 9 9800X3D and RTX 5090, I thought I’d finally found the perfect monitor to upgrade to: the Gigabyte OLED MO34WQC2.

On paper it seemed perfect, it’s a 34" 3440x1440p QD-OLED at 240Hz with Dual Mode: in theory, Dual Mode should let you switch from ultrawide to a smaller, high-refresh 16:9 mode for competitive gaming, while keeping the panel perfect for productivity.

In reality? The scaling is horrible. The image is soo stretched and the aspect ratio is wrong, it’s basically unplayable for competitive gaming. Add in the lack of G-Sync, a mediocre OSD, and uninspired build quality… and you’ve got a panel that’s impossible to recommend.

If you’re looking for a 21:9 OLED for productivity + esports, look elsewhere and don’t fall for the “Dual Mode” hype.
