Alex Ling born in Bukit Lan, Sibu, attended the Methodist Primary School, Millfield School Somerset, England and St Joseph’s School, Kuching before he went to University of Cambridge in 1965. After getting the BA (CANTAB) (TRIPOS) in Law, he did the post graduate degree with an MA LLB, majoring in tax, corporate law, constitutional law, public and private International Laws.

In 1970 after being called to the Bar in Lincoln’s Inn, he worked in Yong & Wong before he joined Roydk & Davidson and David Marshall’s legal firms in Singapore. By 1973, from being a director of Hock Hua Bank and Hock Thai Finance, he became the Chairman of Hock Hua Bank (Sabah) Bhd, apart from heading the Audit Committee of the Bank.

Concurrently in 1971, Alex Ling became a Director of the LBS Timber Group in Malaysia and Indonesia until 2000 apart from running the mining companies as well as investments in oil and gas and coal.

Alex an ardent writer had published two historical novels titled “The Golden Dreams of Borneo” launched in 1995 and “The Twilight Of The White Rajahs” launched in 1997. From 2010 onwards, he pursued his passion in writing an epic poem titled “Sarawak River Of Fame Not Shame” and publishing series of articles on MA1963 and oil and gas in the Borneo Post. Presently, he is writing the Biography of late YAB Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, his classmate, titled “Why YAB Adenan Satem Crossed The Red Lines” with James Ritchie providing the chronicles.
