I've been told that the Strategic Air Defense and Brunswick Naval Air groups used to use the anchorage in Falmouth as a visual navigation aid. Coastal cruising groups call the Falmouth anchorage the largest anchorage north of Marblehead Mass. The anchorage is divided among three main entities: the Portland Yacht Club (PYC), Handy Boat (with Dockside Grill), and the Falmouth Town Landing, all with transient moorings served by local tenders.

This drone video was mid-day at high tide on Sept 2, so the moorings are around 50% capacity, but you get the idea for the over 1,000 moorings in this anchorage.
