The simulation presents the Tiger II's 88mm Pzgr.39/43 projectile impacting the upper side armour of the IS-3 from ~250m. The upper side armour of the IS-3 was 90mm thick, angled at 60°, making it more effective than the frontal armour of most tanks of the era.

The thin, structural steel stowage boxes have been omitted from the simulation as they would have had little impact on the results. Some diagrams show thick 20-30mm screens on the outide of the sloped armour, however these were not introduced on the production IS-3s, with thin stowage boxes fitted instead.

The 88mm projectile has been modelled with progressive hardening, ranging from ~650BHN at the nose, to ~400BHN at the base.
