Today's tip is about timing your news and story pitches right.

We're now into the week of Christmas, and, of course, next week is New Year's - so we know that means a lot of people will be taking time off for the holidays, including reporters.

So if you have news or stories to pitch, it might be better to wait until January. Consider waiting until the second week of January, when everyone's had a chance to get caught up, and their inboxes aren't crammed full of messages they haven't yet read.

Unless your story has something to do with the holidays or is breaking news, consider holding off.
