Welcome Back to Beyond The Terminus Channel.
In today’s video, I want to talk to you about emergency treatment for reversible pulpitis and how to manage acute dental pain effectively. When a patient experiences sudden tooth sensitivity or discomfort, it’s crucial to determine whether the issue is reversible or irreversible pulpitis before proceeding with treatment.
I explain why assessing the tooth’s overall condition is the first step before referring a patient for endodontic treatment. If a tooth has deep decay, periodontal concerns, or structural compromise, is it worth saving? That’s a decision the referring dentist must make, considering both the patient’s needs and long-term treatment success.
We’ll also discuss how to properly diagnose reversible pulpitis, common mistakes in terminology like using "abscess" or "infection" incorrectly, and why unnecessary antibiotics should be avoided. Additionally, you’ll learn about occlusion checks, recession factors, and when elective treatment may be a good choice—especially for patients with travel plans or limited access to dental care.
This is Part 1 of our series, and in the next episode, we’ll cover cases where thermal sensitivity is not improving and what steps should be taken next.
Thanks for watching!
