A face-centered unit cell contains atoms at all the corners and at the centre of all the faces of a cube.
Each atom at the corner is shared by 8 adjacent unit cells.
So, only 1\8th of the atom belongs to one unit cell
That is, number of atoms from the corners is
1/8 per corner atom × 8 corners = 1atom
Each atom locatedat the face-centre is shared between 2 adjacentunit cells
that is only ½ of the atom belongs to one unit cell
So, the number of atoms from face centers =6 face-centred atoms × ½ atom per unit cell = 6 × ½ = 3 atoms
Therefore total number of atoms from a face-centred cubic unit cell is 4 atoms.

That is and 3 atoms from the face-centers and1 atom from the corners.
